THE SHAPE OF WORDS

Brief: to explore language and meaning through typography.

I started this project feeling quite uninspired and unenthusiastic at the thought of kerning and word alignment until watching Helvetica the Movie and looking into actually how much a typeface contributes to the meaning of a word. The outcome of this project is amongst my favorite. I think the heavy light contrast in these final images works very well. Initially I was annoyed by the white rectangle framing but now I think it complements the 'Shape of Words' well and is more engaging and exciting in comparison to what I had originally pictured in my head.  I originally wanted the text to look as though it was printed onto the various places I decided to project it. The I think if I had more time on this project, I would have done some test shoots using the projector as it was not a piece of equipment that I was familiar with. I also would have liked to explored a bigger scale when using the projector and tried projecting it maybe outside or on a larger surface. I would also like to have perhaps explored animation and see how that would have translated as a projection. I think my actual formation of expressing the chosen text was effective and my experimentation of composition and layout was thorough.

Critical feedback: 'Strong contextual links to typography and composition'

'Effective use of environment'

'Good experimentation of text and image'
